Ellen’s Synagogue Bike Tour – Sunday, Nov 14 from 10am-12pm

Join us for a bike tour of Jewish Flatbush, Past and Present. Starting at FJC, we will see six former synagogues in the area, including Shaare Torah and the Woodruff Synagogue, both which merged into FJC. We will also see the lost sites of Shaare Torah and the Yeshiva that were both on Bedford Avenue. We will also stop by the Kings Theatre and former theatres, Erasmus Hall HS, the Ebingers Bakery, and Sears (which is slated to close in November).

The tour will last around 2 hours, and is mostly flat terrain. Bring your helmet and a mask, in case we have the chance to go inside one or more sites.

The tour will be led by Ellen Levitt; she attended Shaare Torah as a child. She is a licensed tour guide and wrote The Lost Synagogues of Brooklyn (Avotaynu). Mike Levine will also speak about his memories of Shaare Torah and the neighborhood in general.
If you would prefer to use a car during the tour, we can accommodate you with a modified route.
