Met Council Mobile Food Pantry @FJC

We are excited to be working with Met Council NY to be one of the sites for the first ever kosher mobile food pantry. We know that food insecurity is something that many New Yorkers face and that during the COVID pandemic, the number of people struggling to feed themselves and their families has drastically increased. FJC is partnering with Community Board 12 executive committee member Mamnun Haq, Self Help and other local organizations to reach as many people as we can. We will host the food truck monthly beginning April 22. Email us if you’d like to volunteer to help families register for their meals.

About Met Council’s program:

Met Council’s Kosher Food Network of 101 pantries is the largest kosher food network in the country and serves all New Yorkers regardless of background.

We procure and distribute kosher food to our network of kosher food pantries and provide ongoing support with reporting, pantry set up and maintenance, advocacy, and programming. Met Council works with community organizations throughout the five boroughs, providing over 15.2 million pounds of food in 2020.

Our partner pantries serve food insufficient clients regardless of their race, faith, ethnicity, sexual identity, or gender.

With support from UJA-Federation of NY, new technology is transforming our food pantry system.

Met Council’s new Digital Choice Food Pantry System, developed to serve our wide-ranging and diverse clientele, is the first of its kind. The online systemallows users to order food packages from their home or pantry site and schedule their own pick-up time. While considering the client’s preferences, the orders are also based on the nutritional requirements mandated by New York State and on household size.

The Digital Choice Food Pantry System is currently being piloted in eleven pantries across New York City.
