Virtual Cooking Demo: Rosy Beet Latkes for Hanukkah
Wednesday, Dec. 9th – 8pm
Start Hanukkah off the right way: with a pile of delicious latkes! Cookbook author (and FJC member) Leah Koenig will lead an interactive demonstration of beet latkes with chive goat cheese from her book Modern Jewish Cooking. Together you’ll grate, mix, and fry your way to some crispy, ruby-red latkes that are as delightful to make as they are to eat. Cooking along is not required to join, but the recipe will be provided in advance for anyone who wants to! This demo is geared towards adults, but older kiddos are welcome to join.

hanukkah moon

When Isobel is invited to Aunt Luisa’s for Hanukkah, she’s not sure what to expect. Aunt Luisa has recently arrived from Mexico. “At Aunt Luisa’s you’ll get to celebrate the Hanukkah Moon,” Isobel’s father promises. Isobel’s days at Aunt Luisa’s are filled with fun and surprises – a new camera, a dreidel piñata filled with sweets, and a mysterious late night visit to welcome the luna nueva, the new moon that appears on Hanukkah. An unusual Hanukkah story with a multi-cultural focus, this title celebrates a little-known custom of the Latin-Jewish community.
